Trawsfynnydd Field Class

Fieldwork is at the heart of our undergraduate teaching and we start as we mean to go on with a weekend field class in North Wales, within the first few weeks of arrival in Liverpool.

The focus is on getting to know each other and the staff, techniques used for field sampling and some of the ecosystems we will be studying in detail later on. We visit a saltmarsh, rocky shore and moorland. We also take a boat-trip around Puffin Island where we observe nationally important seabird populations and see seals and sometimes porpoises. The tour is led by one of our graduates who now runs a successful ecotourism business.

Main Body

Students learn how to make professional field notes and the trip is assessed via a poster, displayed as part of an interactive poster day later on in this module.
