Loch Lomond Field Class

Our Masters field course takes ecology students to the bonnie, bonnie banks of Loch Lomond, near Rowardennan. We visit a range of nature reserves within the Trossachs National Park, to discuss conservation designations and management issues and half the week is spent devising and running student-led projects.

We spend a lot of time investigating the superb Atlantic oak-woods around the centre, but we also visit Flanders Moss a superb raised mire and the island of Inchcailloch (Scot’s gaelic Innis Caillich) in Loch Lomond to consider the effects of lack of grazing on the woodland flora.

Loch Lomond Body

The course is assessed through a group project and submission of a management plant for the restoration of a degraded woodland area.
