Dale Fort Field Class
All first year undergraduates spend a week at Dale Fort, Pembrokeshire. This site is owned and operated by the Field Studies Council and was the first of its kind in the UK. Our visit provides a broad introduction to a range of sampling techniques allowing us to explore community structure and change in a diversity of environments.
Sampling environments include rocky shores, an estuary, woodland, beaches and saltmarsh as we sample for organisms using pitfall traps, quadrats, seine-net fishing, cores, kick-nets and more.
The course is assessed through a test including specimen identification during our stay and on records made in each student’s field notebook.
