Students from the University of Liverpool have claimed first place at the inaugural North West Anatomy Cup, hosted by the University’s Human Anatomy Resource Centre (HARC).
The competition brought together teams from universities across the region, including Liverpool, Manchester, Leeds, Sheffield and Lancashire, to test their anatomical knowledge through a series of quizzes and case-based challenges.
Each institution entered a team of three students from different anatomy-related disciplines, promoting interdisciplinary learning and collaboration across medicine, dentistry and biosciences.
Liverpool’s winning team consisted of:
- Lucy Rudd (School of Medicine)
- Noah Richardson (Anatomy and Human Biology, School of Biosciences)
- Karim Almourad (School of Dentistry)
In addition to the team’s overall success, Lucy Rudd and Noah Richardson also secured joint third place in the individual round, highlighting the strength of Liverpool’s performance throughout the competition.
Karim said: "As someone who was quite nervous about doing an anatomy competition, I ended up having a fantastic time. Meeting my teammates, learning about different courses, and getting to know students from other universities made the day really enjoyable. The competition was great fun, the food was good, and it was a wonderful experience from start to finish."
Alistair Bond, Director of HARC, said: “We are very proud of Lucy, Karim and Noah for winning the Cup. This was a difficult and gruelling day and the students were pitted against the best in the North West. To have come through that in first place is a fantastic achievement and a real testament to their knowledge, application, and preparation. Coming from different courses they all complemented each other brilliantly. Now we just have to find a good place to show off the trophy!”
