Professor Sondos Albadri

I am a Professor in Paediatric Dentistry, Vice Dean for Research and Postgraduate Studies and Academic Lead for the Unit of Oral Health

Where did you study your undergraduate degree?
I studied at Jordan University of Science and Technology in as small city called Irbid in Jordan.

What was your first job after graduating?
After I graduated I moved to the UK to study for my PhD and then my 1st Job was a Senior House Officer in Sheffield.

Briefly describe your career progression from that first job to your current role.
After this I did a number of hospital jobs in Dublin and Liverpool and then I did my specialist training in Manchester. I moved to Liverpool as a clinical lecturer in 2008, promoted to a Senior lecturer/Honorary consultant in 2011, Reader in 2015 and then I became a Professor in 2018.

What do you find most rewarding about working in dentistry?
I like the variety of my job, doing research and being able to use innovation and research to improve patient care.

What aspects of dentistry do you find most interesting?
I just enjoy working with children and and improving patients quality of life.

What are the three most important qualities to have in dentistry?
Caring, honest and innovative.

Where do you think dentistry will be in 10 years?
I think we will be using more minimal intervention techniques and doing more sealing and healing than drillings and fillings.

What advice would you give to students applying for dentistry.
Its an excellent career if you enjoy working with people and making a difference.
