Professor Fadi Jarad

I am a senior lecturer and honorary consultant in Restorative Dentistry. I am a teacher, a clinician and a researcher.

Where did you study your undergrad degree?
I studied at JUST (Jordan University of Science and Technology).

What was your first job after graduating?
A house officer job (junior dentist) in a district general hospital.

Briefly describe your career progression from that first job to your current role.
I moved to Belfast to complete a PhD before moving to Dublin and then to Liverpool where I completed my specialty training.

What do you find most rewarding about working in Dentistry?
Making a small but tangible difference in peoples lives.

What aspects are dentistry do you find most interesting? 
Using gadgets and tools to address someone’s concern.

What are the three most important qualities to have in Dentistry?
Being honest, caring and hungry for knowledge and skills.

Where do you think dentistry will be in 10 years?
Dentist will do less in future but with higher precision and better quality.  Dentist will graduate with core skills and additional skills will be gained through postgraduate training.

What advice would you give to students applying for dentistry?
Your patient should always come first.
