University of Liverpool dental alumni
The Liverpool Dental Alumni Association is believed to be the oldest dental alumni associations in the country. Originally established as the Past Dental Students' Association in 1922 by Professor W H Gilmour, the third Dean of the Dental School and the first professor of dentistry in the UK.
Today, there are approximately 1500 members, all of whom keep in touch with their dental school through an annual newsletter, reunion and dinner. There is also an annual dental staff/student/alumni golf competition, usually played at the Royal Birkdale. The facilitation of meetings, social events and lectures between alumni and undergraduates is always encouraged, with the opportunity for alumni to offer guidance and support to the next generation of dental clinicians.
The Association has a close relationship with the School of Dentistry, supporting its activities, particularly in the form of financial assistance through its investment portfolios. This very tangible level of support is used to contribute to the school’s undergraduate and postgraduate research activities, to provide undergraduate prizes each year and additionally, to offer welfare support for undergraduate students suffering severe hardship.
Membership of the Dental Alumni Association is free to all graduates of the dental school, both at BSc, BDS and Postgraduate level. All that is required is completion of this form.
