Research Training

The Research Methods teaching unit in Year One introduces trainees to a range of methods and issues arising in the conduct of clinical research.  There is in-depth coverage of research design; quantitative and qualitative methods of data collection and analysis; the use of statistics; and the process of planning research projects.  Workshops in years 2 & 3 continue to support trainees' learning on research methods.

Work towards the major research dissertation commences in Year One with trainees submitting a research proposal outlining the work they wish to undertake for their major research dissertation towards the end of Year One.  This must be approved by the programme’ s Research Committee, chaired by the Research Director.  A dissertation is submitted in the third year.

One day per week in the second and third years is allocated to research, increasing to two days for part of the third year prior to submission of the dissertation.
