Update for Windows 10 Managed Windows Service (MWS) staff computers

08 March 2021

Computing Services is working to ensure that all staff remain in a supported and secure environment with the latest version of Windows 10.

Staff who use a University Managed Windows Service (MWS) laptop or desktop computer need to update to the latest version of Windows 10 - the October 2020 (20H2) update.

Members of staff who use a University Managed Windows Service (MWS) PC running Windows 10 need to update to the latest version - the 'October 2020 (20H2) update'.

We made the update available in March and advised staff to upgrade when convenient. We now have to begin forcing the update on to these computers so that we can ensure they remain secure.

From Monday 10th May, we will begin to force the update through to staff MWS computers that have not already upgraded. If you prefer to perform the upgrade at a time convenient to you, please upgrade before this date.

To update your MWS computer:

1. Check which version of Windows 10 the PC is currently running: simply type 'about your PC' in the search on your toolbar. The version will be displayed under the heading Windows specification. If the version number begins with a number that is below 20, you need to upgrade your computer.

2. To update to the latest version, follow the instructions in the knowledge article available at the link below. If the computer is off-campus, you will need to connect to the VPN to update it. To help those doing the update over home broadband, we also recommend that you download the update file in advance of performing the update.

Detailed, step-by-step instructions are available in our knowledge article: https://liverpool.service-now.com/sp/?id=kb_article_view&sysparm_article=KB0012227
