New Office 365 apps available to support staff working from home

19 March 2020

Computing Services have made additional Office 365 apps available to help staff and students during the current changing situation in response to COVID-19.

Microsoft Stream, Forms and Whiteboard are now available for staff. Under normal circumstances, we would release services with a full complement of support, training and advice - but we have taken the decision to release these products early. Whilst we will endeavour to support staff and students, we recommend that staff tap into the instructional and training materials available from Microsoft.

The creation of Microsoft Teams sites has also been changed to allow staff to create their own sites as and when required. When you create your Teams site, please make sure the privacy option remains set to Private otherwise your chat and files will be visible to all University members. Remember, you are responsible for managing and maintaining the permissions for your Microsoft Teams site.

The new apps that have been released are:

* Microsoft Stream - a video service where you can upload, view, and share videos securely. You can share recordings of classes, meetings, presentations, training sessions, or other videos that aid your online work. At the moment, videos can only be shared internally to members of the University.

* Microsoft Forms - allows you to create shareable surveys, quizzes and polls in minutes.

* Microsoft Whiteboard - provides whiteboards to collaborate with others in real time, bringing ideas, content and people together.

All of the apps are available from PCs, Macs, phones or tablets by logging in to office.com or downloading the apps from the Apple App Store or Google Play. The apps can be used within Microsoft Teams sites to bring content together for a group.
