Update to Windows 10 on MWS PCs (staff only)
25 September 2019
We previously advised that staff who use an MWS PC running Windows 10 should make sure that they are running the latest version - "Windows 10 October 2018 update" (https://www.liverpool.ac.uk/csd/newsannouncements.php?posterid=23272878).
From Wednesday 25 September onward, any staff PC which is running an out-of-date "Creators update", or earlier version of Windows 10, will be updated automatically to the new version.
This is because the "Creators update" will no longer supported as of mid-November when it will stop receiving critical security updates. This reflects the new way in which Microsoft is now supporting core software such as Windows.
If you are still running an old version of Windows 10, and wish to ensure that the update takes place at a time of your convenience - for example at the end of the day/overnight before leaving work, you should update it yourself. Instructions are available from the self-service portal knowledge base: https://liverpool.service-now.com/kb_view.do?sysparm_article=KB0010791. Otherwise the update may take place outside your control and with minimal warning.
If you require assistance with checking, or upgrading, your Windows 10 MWS installation please contact the CSD Service Desk via https://servicedesk.liverpool.ac.uk.
If you are running an earlier version of Windows (e.g. Windows 7) and wish to install Windows 10 on your MWS PC you can do so by creating an installer on a USB stick using the MWS Installer utility available from Install University Applications (accessible from the icon on your MWS desktop). Instructions to help you do this are available in the self-service portal knowledge base: https://liverpool.service-now.com/kb_view.do?sysparm_article=KB0010282.
