Improving our data centre resilience - Tuesday 18th December to Wednesday 19th December
05 December 2018
Computing Services is investing heavily to improve the overall resilience of our data centre infrastructure across campus, including the development of a new state-of-the-art data centre in Brownlow Hill Building.
As the first stage in this investment, we will be installing new power supplies and cooling systems in the Chadwick and Rendall data centres on Tuesday 18th and Wednesday 19th December.
There will be no interruption to key IT services (e.g. email, Wi-Fi/network connectivity) while the work takes place but some departmental shared drives will be unavailable for a short time between the evening of Monday 17th December and 6pm on Tuesday 18th December. Administrators of affected drives have been notified and asked to cascade this information.
These improvements will ensure that we have uninterruptible power sources for our data centres in case of mains power failure and, by incorporating more efficient technologies and practices into our data centre management, reduce their environmental impact.
