Principles of Radiation Oncology and Patient Care 4 (Head, Neck & Thorax)

Code: RADT222

Credits: 30

Semester: Semester 2

This module continues to build on the oncology knowledge gained at level 4 and 5, with a focus on cancers of the head, neck and thorax. A blended approach, using case-based learning, will allow learners to apply oncological concepts to real-life scenarios.

A blended teaching approach will be used encompassing: independent study, case study-based tutorials, traditional lectures, modified problem-based learning (PBL), practicals at the Human Anatomy Resource Centre (HARC), as well as planning and treatment simulation using the Virtual Environment Radiotherapy (VERT) and the Eclipse Radiotherapy Treatment Planning System.

Workshops with service users (radiotherapy patients and carers), Clinical Educators, Specialist Radiotherapy Practitioners and Allied Health Professionals (AHPs) are provided to highlight diversity, inter-professional working, psychosocial and communication issues in patient management.

There are two components of assessment:
1. Case Presentation (50%)
2. Unseen Examination (50%)
