TYPICAL AND ATYPICAL LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT

This optional Year 3 module uses a mixture of theoretical, empirical, and practical work to develop your critical understanding of the mechanisms and processes underlying typical and atypical language development. Topics will include Syntactic development; Morphological development; Atypical development and neuropsychology.

At the end of the module, you will be able to approach problem solving in a systematic way, undertake self-directed study and project management, understand the psychological and linguistic underpinnings of the discipline of developmental psycholinguistics, and demonstrate a good knowledge and critical understanding of a range of influences on language functioning. You will also demonstrate knowledge of a range of research paradigms, research methods and measurement techniques. Learning is assessed via a poster (40%) and written examination (60%).
