Shaping the Professional 4

Code: PHTY362

Credits: 30

Semester: Semester 2

Shaping the Professional 4 is the fourth and final personal and professional development module within the programme. This 30 credit, level 6 module is delivered in semester 2 of the final undergraduate year and integrates practice-based learning with university-led education.

The module includes ten weeks (300 hours) of assessed practice, typically undertaken as two five week placements, offering experiential learning across a wide range of NHS, non NHS and social care settings. Students attend placement four days per week, with learning progression supported by practice educators. These placements enable further development of professional knowledge, skills and behaviours, enhancing employability and readiness for contemporary physiotherapy practice. Academic advisors provide individualised support through university based tutorials that promote critical reflection throughout the placement period.

The academic components focus on advancing clinical reasoning and decision making skills, alongside critical exploration of leadership, innovation and change management. While ongoing academic support is maintained, students are expected to demonstrate increased responsibility for their professional development in their final year.

Assessment comprises two practice placement reports (25% each) and a 20 minute seminar presentation (50%), requiring application of clinical reasoning to a patient case study.
