This 15‑credit pre‑clinical module, delivered in semester one of year two, prepares students for contemporary physiotherapy practice by addressing areas that extend beyond traditional specialty boundaries of musculoskeletal, neurological and cardiorespiratory care. It reflects the realities of modern healthcare, and recognises that recognises that some areas of practice are defined by clinical context rather than by body systems. Building on Level 4 learning, the module develops students’ competence in assessment and evidence‑based physiotherapy management of conditions that impact across the lifespan and diverse care environments. Emphasis is placed on integrated, person‑centred approaches that support effective clinical reasoning and treatment planning.
Learning is supported through a blended delivery model incorporating lectures, tutorials, practical sessions and asynchronous e‑learning. Students develop transferable skills in subjective and objective assessment, problem identification, treatment planning, and the application of current evidence and clinical guidelines. The module also examines legal, ethical, contextual and psychosocial influences on practice. Indicative content includes paediatrics, pelvic health, vascular and amputee rehabilitation, frailty, older people’s rehabilitation and palliative care. Assessment is via a written case‑based assignment requiring critical appraisal of an AI‑generated management plan, to support readiness for practice.
