This 15‑credit, year two musculoskeletal module builds on foundational knowledge and skills developed in year one, focusing on the assessment and evidence‑based physiotherapy management and treatment of people with a range of musculoskeletal conditions. The module develops students’ understanding of the pathological, clinical and psychosocial factors that influence presentation, clinical decision‑making and outcomes across acute, chronic and long‑term conditions. Emphasis is placed on the development of clinical reasoning to enable decision making, evidence-based practice and the implementation of key practical skills.
Teaching is delivered through a blended, flipped‑classroom approach designed to progressively develop knowledge, practical competence and clinical reasoning. Weekly asynchronous pre‑recorded e‑lectures introduce key theoretical concepts, which are then applied within tutor‑facilitated tutorials, case‑based discussions and weekly practical classes. Practical sessions focus on core assessment techniques, treatment planning, exercise prescription, manual therapy and the appropriate use of electrotherapy. Learning outcomes are assessed through a summative Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE), enabling students to demonstrate safe, effective and evidence‑based musculoskeletal physiotherapy practice in preparation for practice learning.
