Exercise for Health 2 is a 15 credit module delivered in Semester two of Year two and builds on students’ prior learning in health promotion and exercise prescription. The module explores the psychosocial and societal dimensions of health and the challenges of promoting physical activity and behaviour change across the lifespan. Students will examine key influences on health, including health inequalities, barriers to exercise participation, the needs of diverse and marginalised populations, and the mechanisms and management of chronic pain. Contemporary evidence will be critically evaluated to support an inclusive, person centred and evidence based approach to health and exercise promotion within physiotherapy practice.
Teaching is delivered through a blended model incorporating asynchronous pre recorded e lectures and in person synchronous lectures, interactive workshops and tutorials that utilise case based learning to enable the application of theory to professional contexts. Assessment is authentic and practice focused, requiring students to create a patient centred multimedia resource to support behaviour change and complete a written assignment critically evaluating the theoretical and evidence base underpinning the resource.
