This 15‑credit, level 4 module introduces students to the foundational theoretical knowledge and practical skills essential for safe and effective physiotherapy practice. It focuses on developing an understanding of normal human tissue structure and function, the physiological responses involved in tissue healing and repair, and anatomical concepts and terms related to movement. Alongside this theoretical foundation, the module emphasises the early development of fundamental handling, positioning, and basic patient assessment skills that are central to professional practice.
Teaching and learning are delivered through a blended approach incorporating asynchronous pre‑recorded lectures, tutorials, and supervised practical classes. Pre‑recorded lectures introduce key concepts and enable flexible engagement, while tutorials support consolidation of learning and discussion. Practical sessions provide structured opportunities to develop confidence, professionalism, and competence in essential physiotherapy skills. Achievement of the learning outcomes is assessed through an unseen written examination evaluating theoretical understanding and continuous assessment during practical sessions that assess practical competency.
