Biomechanical modelling and advanced techniques

Code: MUBM004

Credits: 30

Semester: Semester 2

This module provides advanced skills in modelling techniques in musculoskeletal biomechanics. It aims to enhance the students’ skills in a of the broad range of conceptual, analytical and predictive modelling approaches currently used to model the physics and physiology of animal movement, and links between anatomy and mechanical function. This module is a core component of the MSc. Musculoskeletal Biomechanics degree programme. The module will be delivered through a combination of lectures, to introduce key concepts and theory, and through highly interactive practical sessions that will provide an opportunity for students to gain direct experience building and using biomechanical modelling techniques. The module will be assessed through (1) a written portfolio which will assess the student’s ability to communicate key concepts related to the theory and application of biomechanical models, and (2) practical exercises in which students will be required to apply theoretical and practical knowledge to address a biomechanical question using their own model.
