This module offers students the exciting opportunity to conduct an extensive independent research project related to their chosen area of study under academic guidance, within the field of infection, microbiology and microbiomes. It is designed to develop key skills and aims to foster independence in students and support them in developing their organisation, critical thinking and analytical skills, consideration of impact, as well their communication and academic writing skills. This module is ideal for students who want to undertake PhD training in academia and/or to develop skills which are sought after in industry, public sector agencies and non-governmental organisations/charities.
Students will present their work orally to their peers as part of a student mini-conference and will produce final scientific project report in the style of a research paper, which will include a visual abstract and will be examined by a viva voce. Students will also be assessed on their approach to their research work during the project.
