Evidence Synthesis for Evidence Based Practice

Code: DASC515

Credits: 15

Semester: Semester 1

Evidence synthesis brings together evidence from multiple sources and is often considered the most reliable form of health research. Throughout this module students will develop the knowledge and skills to design, conduct and report different types of evidence synthesis methods that are relevant and applicable across a broad range of topics.

The module aims to develop in students a deep understanding of the role of evidence synthesis within evidence-based practice and to build competence in the key processes and methodological approaches that underpin high-quality synthesis.

The module will be delivered over 12 weeks with a 2 hour interactive lecture followed by a 1hour seminar each week. Students will benefit from research-connected teaching with academic staff and have opportunities for active learning. Learning will be assessed via two pieces of coursework (systematic review protocol and systematic review). The knowledge and skills developed throughout this module will prepare students for a broad range of future careers that include the design, conduct, reporting, communicating or interpretation of research evidence.
