Seeing Earth from Space: Applied Remote Sensing

Code: SOES310

Credits: 15

Semester: Semester 1

Planet Earth is facing a period of unprecedented change as the pervasive impacts of anthropogenic development become increasingly apparent. In this module we will look to understand these large-scale changes using modern ‘remote sensing’ data sources that measure environmental change from satellites, drones or other remote platforms. Combining lectures with extended computing practicals we will develop fundamental understanding of the theoretical underpinnings of remote sensing as well as the practical skills to confidently analyse a range of different kinds of satellite data relevant to physical geography. The coursework and assessment will be focussed on developing these practical skills of using cutting edge approaches to answer important environmental questions.
