Quantum Computing and Security

Code: COMP345

Credits: 15

Semester: Semester 1

Quantum computing is developing very fast and it holds the promise of great computational power to be utilized in various applications. In security it provides both a threat to classical cryptographic algorithms commonly used to protect information and new opportunities for the information protection using quantum cryptography.

This module is designed to introduce the students to the areas of quantum computing, its theoretical foundations and practical skills in programming quantum applications, and of quantum cryptography. It will be delivered in cooperation with Advanced Computing and Emerging Technologies Group, The Hartree Centre which will provide insight to the current industrial applications of quantum computing via guest lectures.
