This module is a core component in Year 3 of the BSc Anatomy and Human Biology. It is a practical module which includes access to cadaveric specimens in the Human Anatomy Resource Centre (HARC). This module will consist of a series of weekly lectures and practicals (in HARC) where topics will be reinforced against the lecture material. There will also be access to formative assessments weekly such as online quizzes and questions, as well as self-assessment questions during practical sessions.
The head and neck is considered one of the most complex regions of the human body, containing systems critical to basic functions like feeding and breathing as well as more advanced functions such as communication and cognitive reasoning. Knowledge and understanding of these systems are paramount to many branches of science from psychology and linguistics through to neuroscience as well as careers like radiology and surgery, and emerging disciplines such as robotic augmentation. This module covers the anatomy of the main structures, including the brain and its integration with the spinal cord as well as, for example, the musculature, vasculature, and osteology of the head and neck. Learning and teaching is created and delivered by research-active scientists, ensuring that teaching is informed by the latest research and advances, and is designed to be accessible, inclusive, and representative.
Learners are assessed through a mixture of written and practical assessments.
