Human Systems Anatomy

Code: BIOS213

Credits: 15

Semester: Semester 1

This module is a core component in Year 2 of the BSc Anatomy and Human Biology degree. It is a practical module which introduces the students to using cadaveric materials to learn anatomy and provides them with their first opportunity at cadaveric dissection in the Human Anatomy Resource Centre (HARC).

The content is delivered in various ways. Lecture will outline the concepts but there is an important practical component working with human cadaveric specimens. To enhance learning, additional learning materials will be available online and skills can be tested using online quizzes.

This course is assessed by means of an online exam (50%) and a practical “spotter” exam (50%). The online exam will test the student’s theoretical knowledge and their ability to demonstrate how individual structures link into anatomical and functional systems. The "spotter" exam tests the student’s skills to apply this knowledge and will use anatomical specimens and anatomical, histological and medical images where students have to name labelled structures.
