Dame Lorna Muirhead, DCVO, DBE, CStJ, SRN, SCM, MTD, FRCM, FRCOG, FJMU, LLD (Hon), LHD
Dame Lorna came to Liverpool in 1965 and worked as a midwife for 40 years spending most of that time at the Liverpool Maternity Hospital and the Liverpool Women's Hospital. Her passion was the care of labouring women and over this time she delivered many Liverpool babies sharing many joys with Liverpool families.
In 1994 Dame Lorna was elected to the Council of her professional body, The Royal College of Midwives, which is the oldest and largest midwifery organisation in the World.
In 1997 she was elected as President of The Royal College of Midwives and served for 7½ years as a National and International ambassador for midwives.
Her contribution and passion for midwives, midwifery, women and their families was acknowledged in 2000 when she was awarded Dame Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (DBE) for service to midwifery.
In 2003 Dame Lorna was appointed a Deputy Lieutenant of Merseyside and in 2006 she was appointed as The Queen's personal representative – Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Merseyside.
At the end of 2016, Dame Lorna was appointed Dame Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (DCVO) by Her Majesty the Queen for services to the Crown.
