Biplab joined the Cooper group in 2022 as a post-doctoral research associate. He did his Ph.D. at the University of Zurich with Dr. Jan Helbing & Prof. Peter Hamm. During his Ph.D., he developed an ultrafast laser-based spectrometer to measure and amplify vibrational circular dichroism (VCD) & vibrational optical rotatory dispersion (VORD) signals simultaneously from chiral molecules. In 2016, he joined Prof. Huib Bakker’s group at AMOLF, Netherlands to investigate ultrafast vibrational energy transport processes in protein networks (blood clots) using two-dimensional infrared laser (2DIR) spectroscopy. From 2018-2022, he held a Scientist position at Unilever R&D, India. His research area at Unilever was in-silico modelling of human facial appearance: by employing physics-based rendering and supervised/unsupervised deep learning, his group modelled facial/skin appearance modulation (with emphasis on skin-appearance attributes, such as colour, gloss, blemish suppression, texture analysis, etc.) due to the application of skin-care formulations. Since 2022 he is on a career break to pursue automation and modelling at Cooper group.
