Technical Specifications

The following guidelines cover computer equipment required to take part in the innovative distance learning courses that the University of Liverpool offer. 

You will be required to have access to a computer with the following minimum technical specification and accessories:

PC: Pentium or comparable processor
Operating system: Windows 7, Windows XP, Vista or Mac OS X 10.2 or greater
Memory: 512 MB RAM minimum
Hard disc: 100MB of hard disc space minimum
Graphics card: Capable of viewing video over the internet. (Try YouTube with your machine to see if you can play a video file)
Sound card: On board or internal sound card so that the computer can play a music CD
Software: Internet explorer version 6.0 or greater (must be used on MAC computers), Microsoft Office 2003 or later, updated Adobe Acrobat Reader*, Adobe Flash Player*. (Both Adobe products are available via a free* download)
Monitor: Standard monitor of around 17” or larger. If using a laptop one that is comfortable to view for over an hour.
Speakers: Either built in monitor speakers or those built into a laptop. You can also use basic external speakers
Headphones: Standard enclosed headphones or headphones with built in microphone.
Broadband Internet connection: 1MBps minimum Internet connection speed

If you do not have the minimum specification outlined above or would like to ask a question about the technical requirement, please contact the CSD Service Desk (servicedesk@liv.ac.uk) and discuss the equipment you do have, there may be free* updates that can be applied to your computer to help make it compatible with our learning systems.
