A History of Persia: the 1st Millennium CE

A single session on campus Saturday 7 November, 10am - 4pm

Overview

During the first millennium the land of Persia experienced a series of different regimes. It had begun with the Parthians but in the 3rd century they were overthrown by the Sasanians who pursued an aggressive policy to extend their borders against the Roman and Byzantine empires as well as to promote orthodox Zoroastrian religion. Then in the middle of the 7th century the forces of Islam erupted out of Arabia and brought fundamental changes to the area. This course will examine the impact of these changes in ancient Persia. 

This course is for anyone with an interest in ancient history and Persian culture.

Course lecturer

Michael Tunnicliffe studied Theology at Birmingham (B.A & M.A) and at Cambridge (M.Litt) and holds a diploma in Judaism and Jewish Christian Relations from Birmingham and a Certificate in Egyptology from Manchester. He is a long established tutor for Continuing Education and teaches courses in the areas of History and Theology both online and face to face.
