I obtained a BSc (1st class) in Computation from the University of Manchester (UMIST) in 1994. In 1996 and 2000 I received an MSc by Research and a PhD, respectively, from the Control Systems Centre of the University of Manchester. For the next a few years I worked in industry and later as a postdoctoral researcher. I joined the University of Liverpool as a Lecturer in January 2005. My research interests lie in the fields of machine learning, pattern recognition, data analytics, modelling and optimisation. Current and past application areas of my work include biomedical engineering, biomechanics, text mining, security, and industrial sensing and control.
