Senior Lecturer in Media Communication and Media

    About

    Personal Statement

Georgina joined the department in 2014. Her research interests are fairly wide-ranging, but her primary interest is in media discourses and representations: what the media say about things, and how they say it. She is particularly interested in magazines and print subcultures. Her work tends to revolve around (collective) identity, gender and sexuality – recent work has looked at viewer’s discussions of a romance between two older women (‘Berena’) on the BBC medical drama Holby City, and in particular its impact on them and their mental health and wellbeing. In 2018 she produced an award winning Berena fanzine with participants, later writing about zines in terms of shared affect.
