Film Buddy

The Department of Communication and Media is delighted to announce a new partnership with Film Buddy, a film and television production mentoring scheme.

Film Buddy is a unique and innovative service which provides members with a dedicated professional industry mentor, based in the North of England. Film Buddy mentors are highly experienced in film and TV production and are well-connected with a range of film and TV productions taking place in the North West and across the UK, such as the Red Production/BBC period drama ‘Years and Years’ which has just started shooting in Manchester and across the North West.

Film Buddy mentors will visit the University campus once a month between January and June to hold one-to-one meetings with student participants. The aim of these sessions will be to:

  • Develop understanding of film and television production industries
  • Develop a winning CV and prepare for interviews in film and TV production
  • Find out where the next production opportunities are, who to contact, and when
  • Secure a 35-hour week-long film/TV production internship in the North West by 31 August 2019

There is a fee of £75 to join the programme, but the Department of Communication and Media will cover 50% of the costs, so participating students will need to make a one-off payment of £37.50 to the University to join the programme.

Students will be required to make a commitment to attend every mentoring session, to undertake a range of career development activities as advised by their mentor, and to participate in a 35-hour week-long internship on a North West based production by 31st August 2019.
