Dr Yong Yan obtained his B.Sc. in Chemistry from Lanzhou University, China (2006) and Ph.D. in Chemistry under the supervision of Prof. Martin Schröder at the University of Nottingham, UK (2011). He continued as a postdoctoral researcher with Prof. Schröder in Nottingham then in the University of Manchester (2015), where he was working with Nobel Chemistry Prize winner Sir James Fraser Stoddart FRS on a collaborative project. In late 2016, he moved to the University of Liverpool to work with Prof. Matthew Rosseinsky FRS.
Dr Yan's skill set includes organic synthesis, inorganic synthesis, materials characterisations, gas adsorption/separation, X-ray/neutron diffraction, etc. His current research interest is focused on the frontiers of functional framework materials involving novel design and synthesis of new structures, structural characterisations by single-crystal and powder X-ray diffraction, in situ studies of substrate-loaded and flexible porous systems by a variety of advanced techniques such as synchrotron X-ray/neutron diffraction/scattering/spectroscopy methods, and catalysis applications.
