Mahidol-Liverpool Stang Mongkolsuk PhD Scholarship


Studentship overview

The University of Liverpool and Mahidol University have come together to honour the scientific leadership of the Late Professor Stang Mongkolsuk, who obtained his PhD from the University of Liverpool and became the Founding Dean of the Faculty of Science, Mahidol University.

Purpose

To provide a foundation training in research to enable outstanding graduates from Mahidol University, Thailand to proceed to a PhD degree at the University of Liverpool in the UK. The PhD degree will be in any Science subjects covered by the University of Liverpool including (i) Chemical and Materials Sciences, (ii) Environmental Sciences and (iii) Structural and Molecular Biology.

Eligibility

  • Awarded or expected 1st class or or a GPA of 3.5 and above, from Mahidol University in relevant disciplines
  • English proficiency test with a minimum score that fulfills the requirements of the University of Liverpool. (IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL 570 (Paper Based), TOEFL 88-89 (Internet Based)  
  • Thai citizenship

Duration of grant

Up to 4 years

Mahidol University and the University of Liverpool.

Service Commitment

Within two years of completion, the scholarship recipient shall return to Mahidol University and be employed by the faculty that nominated him/her. The length of this employment shall be no less than twice the period of time spent studying at the University of Liverpool.

Selection process

A decision will be made by the scholarship committee including representation from Mahidol University and the University of Liverpool. Students should be available for interview, if required by the committee. The decision of the scholarship committee will be considered as final, and should be completed within 4-6 weeks after the close of application.
