OBITUARY: James Mulvihill

It is with great sadness to announce the sudden death of James Mulvihill (Jimmy) on the 11th November aged 51.
Jimmy started working for the University in 1989, working as a life guard in the Sports Centre. Before this Jimmy was a professional football player, playing for Liverpool FC but this was cut short due to injury. He did manage to carry on playing football and played for South Liverpool and Prescot Cables for some years.
Jimmy joined the technical staff in Chemistry in November 2001, working for the Solvent Distribution Service and the stores. Jimmy was very popular within the department and became a lifelong friend to many staff. His main topics of conversation were football, family and keep fit.
Due to his previous job in the sports centre Jimmy was a well-known figure around the University, hugely popular, and a true gent who will be sadly missed by us all. Jimmy was always willing to help people. He was very compassionate with a selfless character. He would regularly walk to work because he had given his bus fare to his daughter. This was also extended to other people, as when bumping into an old school friend in the city centre, who had fallen on hard times, he gave him all the money he had in his pocket.
Above all Jimmy was a family man, a husband to Karen, a son to Flo, a brother to Anne, and a devoted dad to Ashley, Daniel, Sean, Reiss and Freya. Please spare a moment to think of them at this difficult time.
Jimmy you will be in our hearts and memories forever and will never be forgotten by your friends.
