    Personal Statement

    David joins the Centre for Innovation in Education (CIE) with 13 years of experience in higher education, both in the UK and Asia. Formerly a Learning Technologist with the Faculty of Health and Social Care at Edge Hill University, he then spent 6 years with The Hong Kong Polytechnic University as an Instructional Design Specialist. Here his primary focus was on leading the Blended & Online Learning & Teaching (BOLT) Foundation Course and wider BOLT Project, designing staff development opportunities in the appropriate adoption and development of modern approaches to curriculum design and active learning, including hybrid teaching, flipped classroom approaches, building learning communities, Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), Open Educational Resources (OERs) and virtual tutorials.

    Supported by a Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching in Higher Education (PGCTHE), Senior Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA) and Certified Membership of the Association for Learning Technology (CMALT), David is passionate about the appropriate use of digital tools and platforms for the enhancement of the student learning experience, and promotes the application of pedagogical models and frameworks such as The Five Stage Model and Carpe Diem, Community of Inquiry (CoI), Conversational Framework, SAMR Model, and the adoption of Arena Blended Connected (ABC) and MOOC Design Mapping Frameworks (MDMF) for team-based approaches to learning design.

    David is keen to support colleagues in; Blended & Online Learning & Teaching, Flipped Classroom Approaches, Curriculum Design Frameworks, Active Learning Tools & Techniques, and Open Educational Resources.
