Ana Alfirevic & Andrea Jorgensen

Congratulations Ana and Andrea!

The Centre for Drug Safety Science team would like to congratulate two of our academic staff who have been promoted to professor.

Ana Alfirevic is now Professor of Pharmacology and Personalised Medicine. She has been working on identification of genetic predisposing factors for adverse drug reactions including immune-mediated hypersensitivity, hepatotoxicity, agranulocytosis and statin-induced myotoxicity using high throughput genotyping and next generation whole genome (genomic DNA and mitochondrial DNA) and whole exome sequencing technologies. Ana's research interests include implementation of genetic testing in the NHS, development of clinical decision support systems and tackling health inequalities.

Andrea Jorgensen becomes Professor of Biostatistics. Andrea leads the University of Liverpool Department of Biostatistics' pharmacogenetics research group and is co-lead for the MRC North West Hub for Trials Methodology Research's theme on Efficacy and Mechanisms Evaluation of Targeted Therapies. She also co-leads the MRC Network of Hubs for Trials Methodology Research's Stratified Medicine Working Group. Her research interests are within statistical methods related to pharmacogenetic research, particularly stratified trials, systematic reviews, meta-analysis and analysis of time-to-event data. She also has an interest in statistical methods for personalised/stratified medicine more broadly, including analysis of biomarker data. Andrea works closely with colleagues within the Wolfson Centre for Personalised Medicine and is experienced in analysing large pharmacogenetic datasets across a wide range of therapeutic areas, including anticoagulation, anti-epileptic drugs and asthma.

We wish them both our warmest congratulations on their well-deserved success!
