Progress to Postgrad: Georgina
Posted on: 31 July 2026 by Richard Finch in Class of 2025
Georgina Powell graduated with a degree in Aerospace Engineering with Pilot Studies and went on to study Astronautics and Space Engineering at Cranfield University, building on the knowledge and experience gained during their University of Liverpool.
What motivated you to pursue postgraduate study, and when did you realise it was the right path for you?
Looking at the careers I wanted to do, back in second year, a lot of them required a masters. I wanted to go to Cranfield due to its reputation and the course it did.
What were the biggest challenges you faced during the transition from undergraduate to postgraduate study, and how did you overcome them?
Postgrad is much more intense! I found a routine that worked for me to make sure the work was manageable.
Is there anything you are doing outside of your studies that has supported your development whilst studying?
I tutor A level physics and maths on the side; the repetition of these topics really solidifies my understanding - which helps as a level physics appears a lot in my studies and internship.
If you could give future grads one piece of advice, what would it be?
Just begin. Having a nice revision plan and making notes of every lecture is nice but, for me at least, the understanding doesn’t click unless it’s applied to a question or an engineering challenge.
Also make things. Think rockets are cool? Make a small one. Want to measure its thrust? Make a load cell. Being hands-on is a valuable skill.

Graduate Outcomes Survey
The Graduate Outcomes survey exists to improve the experience of future students. All graduates are asked to share their perspectives 15 months after they finish their course, to build a national picture that UK universities and colleges use to innovate their services. League tables, Prospects and The Complete University Guide use our Graduate Outcomes data to help students make decisions about their future.
