I Got Hired: Travis

Posted on: 31 August 2026 by Richard Finch in Class of 2025

Travis, a member of our Class of 2025 Integrated Master of Psychological Sciences (MPsycholSci) cohort, is now working as a Research Associate at Adelphi Values (Omnicom), applying his research and analytical expertise in a leading consultancy environment.

What first caught your attention about this role, and what made you think, “This is for me”?

The company I work for, Adelphi Values, is a global healthcare value consultancy specialising in patient-centred outcomes, health economics, market access, and real-world evidence for the healthcare and pharmaceutical industries.

The company appealed to me because it offered the opportunity to apply the research and analytical skills I developed during my degree in a commercial setting, while contributing to projects that support leading pharmaceutical companies in improving patient outcomes. This provided an appealing alternative to a purely academic route whilst still allowing me to apply the skills developed over four years at the University of Liverpool.

Which experience along your journey has had the biggest impact on who you are professionally today?

Juggling academic commitments, part-time work, and a busy social life taught me resilience, adaptability, and effective prioritisation, all of which helped me persevere through the job search process and make a successful transition into working life.

What’s been the toughest part of your graduate journey, and what did it teach you?

Without a doubt, the most challenging period was the job search and unemployment immediately after graduation. I went from the excitement and achievement of my graduation ceremony to six months of job applications, interviews, and frequent rejection.

It was particularly difficult seeing many of my peers secure roles before me, as it was easy to feel as though I was falling behind. However, that experience taught me the importance of resilience and patience. I learned not to compare my own journey to others and to recognise that career progression is different for everyone.

Although things did not happen as quickly as I had hoped, the experience helped me develop a more positive and grounded perspective.

If you could give future grads one piece of advice, what would it be?

Try not to compare yourself to others during the job search process. There will almost certainly be people who secure roles more quickly than you, even when you've done everything possible to improve your chances. That's simply the nature of the job market. Everyone's circumstances, opportunities, and timelines are different.

Stay focused on your own progress, remain persistent, and remember that setbacks or delays do not reflect your value or potential. Also, if you can, try to make the most of the time between graduation and starting your first role. It can be easy to view this period as unproductive, but once your career begins, opportunities for extended time off become much rarer.

Use it to pursue hobbies, spend time with friends and family, travel if possible, and reflect on your goals.  While job searching will be stressful, it's also important to try and appreciate the freedom and flexibility that this unique stage of life offers.

Graduate Outcomes Survey

The Graduate Outcomes survey exists to improve the experience of future students. All graduates are asked to share their perspectives 15 months after they finish their course, to build a national picture that UK universities and colleges use to innovate their services. League tables, Prospects and The Complete University Guide use our Graduate Outcomes data to help students make decisions about their future.
