I Got Hired: Harry

Posted on: 16 July 2026 by Richard Finch in Class of 2025

Harry a Class of 2025 History graduate, who is now working as Operations Graduate Scheme at Young's Pubs, applying the skills and confidence developed through their University of Liverpool experience.

What first caught your attention about this role, and what made you think, “This is for me”?

My love and passion for efficiently operating and successful pubs, especially in London, it was something I would love to be apart of. Being able to learn from world class professionals at a business who is leading the way in this modern adapting hospitality sector made me want the role more than anything.

Which experience along your journey has had the biggest impact on who you are professionally today?

Difficult to choose just one. Meeting such a diverse number of people allowing me to grow confidence in a professional setting has definitely been important. However, the feeling of overcoming a setback is irreplaceable, so I would say coming back from academic, personal and even professional setbacks from prior part-time job roles has moulded a resilience that has transferred to my professionalism today.

What’s been the toughest part of your graduate journey and what did it teach you?

Managing workload. All through school and university I always wanted to get tasks done promptly when they were set, however, since starting full-time work I have learnt not everything can be completed in a week. I found I would burnout early into the week trying to do too much - so creating a punctual work plan where I can manage different projects I need to work on in terms of their priority of deadline, but also in terms of their importance has been game changing and incredibly satisfying seeing this successful.

If you could give future grads one piece of advice, what would it be?

Do not stop applying, meeting and connecting. Make yourself as known as you can and prioritise yourself.
