I Got Hired: Finn

Finn is a Class of 2025 Politics graduate who is now working in Operational Due Diligence at BNP Paribas Asset Management, using transferable skills from their University of Liverpool degree in a new professional setting.

Looking back, what influenced your decision to take your career in a different direction from what you first imagined? 

I had always been interested in the finance industry and made sure I had done modules I could link to my interests when it came to interviewing. 

Are there any skills or ways of thinking from your degree that you still use in your current role, even though the industry is different? 

Definitely. My degree taught me to think very analytically and read between the lines, which is key in my current role. 

For graduates considering a similar change, what’s one piece of advice you’d share? 

Make sure you really understand the role you are applying for and can explain its requirements in detail. A lot of the time, when explaining why you are a good fit for a role in an interview, this is an easy slip-up.
