I Got Hired: Elisha

Posted on: 26 August 2026 by Richard Finch in Class of 2025

After graduating with a BSc in Orthoptics as part of the Class of 2025, Elisha secured a role as an Orthoptist at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust, beginning their professional career in a specialist healthcare setting.

What first caught your attention about this role, and what made you think, “This is for me”?

I was given the opportunity to have an interview for a role whilst being on my final placement!

I knew that I would get on well with the team and was already familiar with the working day.

Which experience along your journey has had the biggest impact on who you are professionally today?

The biggest impact on my professional development was my clinical placements throughout university. Each placement challenged me to become more confident in my clinical decision-making, communication, and patient care. Learning from different orthoptists and working with a wide variety of patients helped me develop both professionally and personally, preparing me to transition from a student to qualified orthoptist.

What’s been the toughest part of your graduate journey, and what did it teach you?

The toughest part of my graduate journey was adjusting from student life to working full time. It was a big change, not only professionally but personally, as I had to adapt to a new routine, increased responsibility, and a different work-life balance. Although it was challenging at first, it helped me become more organised, resilient, and independent.

If you could give future grads one piece of advice, what would it be?

It all moves faster than you expect. One moment you’re finishing university, and the next you’re in clinic full-time. My advice would be to take it day by day, ask questions early, and trust that confidence comes with experience rather than needing to have it from the start.

Graduate Outcomes Survey

The Graduate Outcomes survey exists to improve the experience of future students. All graduates are asked to share their perspectives 15 months after they finish their course, to build a national picture that UK universities and colleges use to innovate their services. League tables, Prospects and The Complete University Guide use our Graduate Outcomes data to help students make decisions about their future.
