I Got Hired: Alice

Posted on: 20 July 2026 by Richard Finch in Class of 2025

BA Communication and Media graduate Alice is now working as Social Media Executive at J2X, applying the skills and confidence developed through their University of Liverpool experience.

What first caught your attention about this role, and what made you think, “This is for me”?

I knew I wanted to work in organic social and had heard that an agency was better than in-house for a first job as you get more experience

Which experience along your journey has had the biggest impact on who you are professionally today?

When I joined I had a two week crossover with the previous social media manager and then it was just me in charge of organic social for approx 6 clients. It’s fair to say I was thrown in the deep end and it made me learn quick!

<h3">What’s been the toughest part of your graduate journey — and what did it teach you?

Learning to not take rejection of my work or ideas personally, at work people don’t tend to comment every time you’ve done something well, they just point out what needs changing. At first I found this difficult but I spoke with my line manager and she helped me reframe my thinking - anything that isn’t commented on is flawless work. Another lesson within that was to always speak to someone if you’re not sure about something, my line manager reassured me that I was performing better than they could have hoped for so my concerns that my work wasn’t good enough were all in my head, not based in truth. This gave me much more confidence moving forward.

If you could give future grads one piece of advice, what would it be?

Don’t worry if you’re the least qualified in the room, they picked you for a reason, and you are IN the room. Soak up as much as you can and ask questions. You’ll learn quickly!
