I Got Hired: Grace
Posted on: 27 August 2026 by Richard Finch in Class of 2025
Class of 2025 Law LLB (Hons) graduate Chennell-Kokoruwe is now working as a Solicitor Apprentice at SFR Law, taking the next step in their legal career and building on the knowledge, skills and experience gained during their studies at the University of Liverpool.
What first caught your attention about this role, and what made you think, “This is for me”?
I found my current job through the universities legal bulletin page while searching for opportunities that matched my career goals and interests. The role immediately stood out because it aligned perfectly with what I was looking for, offering relevant experience in my field as well as the chance to develop valuable professional skills. The job description reflected the type of work I wanted to pursue, making it an ideal opportunity. Finding the position through the university bulletin also gave me confidence that it was a reputable opportunity, and I am grateful that it connected me with a role that has been both rewarding and beneficial for my personal and professional development.
Which experience along your journey has had the biggest impact on who you are professionally today?
My work at the university's Law Clinic, particularly within the Family Department, played a significant role in inspiring me to pursue a career in family law. The experience gave me valuable hands-on exposure to real life legal matters, allowing me to see firsthand the impact that legal professionals can have on individuals and families during challenging times. Working on real cases helped me develop practical skills, deepen my understanding of family law, and build my confidence in applying legal knowledge in a professional setting. This experience confirmed that family law is the area of practice I am most passionate about and reinforced my ambition to build my future career in this field.
What’s been the toughest part of your graduate journey, and what did it teach you?
After graduating, I initially found the transition into the professional world challenging, particularly when trying to navigate new opportunities and understand where I fitted within the legal sector. The process of finding my direction and building professional connections was difficult at first, and the social impact of leaving university meant losing the familiar support network and community I had become accustomed to. However, over time, I learned that finding your place after graduation is a gradual process, and by engaging with new opportunities and meeting people within the profession, I was able to build a new sense of community
If you could give future grads one piece of advice, what would it be?
My advice to students approaching graduation would be to seek out as much real-world experience as possible, as every opportunity can contribute positively to your personal and professional development. This experience does not necessarily have to be directly related to your chosen career path, as many skills gained through part-time jobs, volunteering, or other roles are highly transferable. Skills such as communication, teamwork, organisation, problem-solving, and confidence are valuable in any professional environment.
