I Got Hired: Elliott
Posted on: 17 August 2026 by Richard Finch in Class of 2025
Class of 2025 graduate Elliot, who studied MChem Medicinal Chemistry with Pharmacology, is now working as a Metabolism Chemist at Syngenta.
What first caught your attention about this role, and what made you think, “This is for me”?
With a limited number of graduate opportunities available in this area, I was proactive in applying for roles that aligned with my academic background and interests. I did a research project on plant phytochemicals as part of my degree, which is similar to plant metabolism (my current role).
Which experience along your journey has had the biggest impact on who you are professionally today?
My experience with the Liverpool University Officer Training Corps was great.
What’s been the toughest part of your graduate journey - and what did it teach you?
Being rejected for graduate jobs for nearly 7 months after finishing university was tough.
If you could give future grads one piece of advice, what would it be?
Be kind. Because the way the world seems to be going, we will all need it.

Graduate Outcomes Survey
The Graduate Outcomes survey exists to improve the experience of future students. All graduates are asked to share their perspectives 15 months after they finish their course, to build a national picture that UK universities and colleges use to innovate their services. League tables, Prospects and The Complete University Guide use our Graduate Outcomes data to help students make decisions about their future.
