Graduate Outcomes Survey: information for employers

The Graduate Outcomes Survey helps the University of Liverpool understand what graduates are doing 15 months after completing their course, and employers can play an important role by encouraging recent Liverpool graduates to complete it.

Help us understand where a University of Liverpool degree can lead

The Graduate Outcomes Survey is the UK’s biggest annual survey of university graduates. It asks graduates what they are doing 15 months after completing their course.

For the University of Liverpool, this information helps us understand the real destinations, experiences and career journeys of our graduates. It also helps us recognise the important role employers play in supporting young graduate talent as our students move from university into professional life.

Why this matters to employers and how to support it

By encouraging graduates to complete the survey, employers help ensure that UK graduate employment data reflects the real experiences of Liverpool graduates in the workplace and your role in this success.

As an employer of University of Liverpool graduates, you can support by encouraging recent Liverpool graduates in your organisation to complete the Graduate Outcomes Survey when they are contacted.

A simple reminder from their employer can make a real difference. This is particularly important because graduates may not always realise how valuable their response is.

Here is our Graduate Outcomes Employer Information Pack which includes suggested wording, key messages and practical resources to help you support graduates in your organisation.

What is the Graduate Outcomes Survey?

The Graduate Outcomes Survey is a national survey of UK university graduates. It is administered centrally by the Higher Education Statistics Agency and takes place around 15 months after graduates complete their course.

Graduates may be contacted online or by telephone and asked about their current activity, including employment, further study, self-employment, volunteering, portfolio work or other career routes.

The survey also asks graduates how they feel about their current activity, including whether their work or study feels meaningful, whether they are using the skills gained during their degree, and whether they feel on track towards their future goals.

This gives universities and employers a fuller picture of graduate success - not just where graduates work, but how they are using their education, skills and experiences after university.

Why Graduate Outcomes data matters

Graduate Outcomes data is used nationally in league tables, the Teaching Excellence Framework, higher education policy and public information about universities.

At the University of Liverpool, Graduate Outcomes data helps us understand graduate employment and further study destinations, identify where students and graduates may need more support, improve careers and employability activity across our programmes, strengthen our work with employers and industry partners, and celebrate the wide range of career paths Liverpool graduates take.

Every completed Graduate Outcomes Survey helps build a more accurate and meaningful picture of graduate careers.
