Expertise
Image processing covers a wide range of techniques
related to image reconstruction and noise reduction; a
major focus of interest is the ability to extract and interpret
motion information from a sequence of images.
These statistical tracking systems are a fundamental part
of technologies with ‘situational awareness’ and scene
interpretation techniques. They allow disparate and partial
measurements to be pieced together to form consistent
models of the environment of an image, and the
movement and interaction of objects within that space.
They also allow different types of sensor data to be fused
in consistent ways, to improve the resolution and the
detection ability of any of the individual sensors.
Liverpool has expertise in object tracking, visual
navigation and mapping systems, and general data/
sensor fusion. This covers applications in aerospace
engineering, medical imaging and mapping.
We can apply these techniques to provide smart object
tracking systems such as early warning systems for
missile attacks. We also work with partners to develop a
visual navigation, using visual images to locate a position
in an area or generate rudimentary 2D maps.
