Sleepingtories by LSA lecturer Jocelyn Froimovich, in collaboration with Bence Komlosi, is currently on view at Casa de la Arquitectura as part of the exhibition Wellbeing in the City (inaugurated April 23rd, 2026). The exhibition explores new spatial approaches to care, health, and inclusion in urban environments.
Sleepingtories repositions rest as a fundamental civic right, challenging the exclusion of sleeping from public space. The project presents prototype urban artefacts that propose distinct collective and individual modes of rest. From intimate, mobile structures to large-scale shared platforms, these interventions question how cities might accommodate vulnerability, slowness, and bodily needs beyond productivity.
Drawing inspiration from Enzo Mari’s Autoprogettazione, the work also foregrounds reproducibility and open design, offering instructions for replication and adaptation. In doing so, Sleepingtories expands architectural discourse on public space, proposing alternative urban futures grounded in care, accessibility, and the right to pause.
The central focus of the exhibition "Actions for Well-being," brings together ninety-five projects developed across three continents, linked to processes such as birth, raising children, eating, sleeping, healing, cutting, playing, and walking. These projects take place within a shared framework where public space acted as a mediator. The collection is presented as an empirical basis for identifying replicable strategies for building urban environments oriented toward well-being.
The selection of these projects was made by a scientific committee composed of Marta Poch, Caterina Capdevila (Poch Capdevilla), Marisa Yiu (Design Trust), Elke Krasny (AKBILD), Alejandra Celedón Forster (UDP), Ana Robles Pérez (KABK), and Marina Otero Verzier (GSAPP), along with the exhibition curator, Izaskun Chinchilla (UCL), based on a comparative analysis of one hundred and eighty-three proposals.
