Kelping Jaywick

Kelping Jaywick’ is an investigation into combating coastal decline through secure, sustainable energy generation. Currently, Jaywick contains a diverse array of problems including unemployment, poor infrastructure and anti-social behaviour and therefore requires a radical proposition.

It was decided that Jaywick’s only asset, the coast, could be harnessed as a catalyst for providing employment, tourism and attracting new businesses to the area as a means of stimulating economic growth. This is done by growing, harvesting and converting seaweed to energy. This process would provide employment for 50% of those currently unemployed within the town and act as a catalyst for a 40 year phased redevelopment of the area.
